No 5. Toast the town from the 42nd floor

15 Jul

I know I said my next excursion would be outdoor swimming but the weather has been really wet and to really appreciate open air swimming, I believe you need sunshine.

So I put swimming on hold and instead ventured out to a champagne bar on the 42nd floor, which my sis-in-law and I had been planning (and looking forward to!) for a few weeks.

Vertigo 42 is reservation only and the woman who greeted us at reception was quite snooty After an airport style security check of conveyor belts and metal detectors, we entered the neon-lit lift with just one button taking you directly to the 42nd floor.  It felt a bit like being in Willy Wonka’s elevator.

Thankfully the snooty receptionist was the polar opposite of the staff upstairs.  Our waiter was really friendly, topping up our drinks, flashing a wide grin each time we thanked him and happily taking pictures of us.

The bar isn’t what I expected.  It’s no more than 2 metres wide and circles around the building.  This means everyone gets seated right next to the floor to ceiling windows and can enjoy a 360 degree view of London while sipping drinks and nibbling olives.  The decor is quite cold and reminiscent of the late 80’s/early 90’s with lots of white and mirrors, but with a view like this you don’t care.

For anyone suffering from heights be warned, there literally is nowhere to sit but by the windows.

For everyone else living in or visiting London, add this to your list of things to do!  It is a totally glamorous way to treat yourself and get a bird’s eye view of the city without breaking the bank. Bottle of Champagne and Olives £72 (inc. service)

Ohhh, what a treat! The views look amazing. Would be fun to do as part of a Hen weekend!

So true, it would be perfect for that! Or any other excuse to get dressed up for a girls evening 🙂
